The Hines Sight Team

William Hines, MD
Founder
Dr. William Hines founded Hines Sight in 1983. He was one of the first doctors to offer LASIK in Denver, CO, and quickly became a trusted provider of PRK, ICL™, and cataract surgery in Denver, CO. During his career, he became one of the most accomplished eye surgeons in the region, completing more than 50,000 LASIK procedures and more than 10,000 cataract surgeries.
Dr. Hines is now retired from our practice, but he continues to contribute to the field of ophthalmology as a professor at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center in Denver.
Our entire team is dedicated to maintaining the high standard of care that he established.
We Perform Eye Surgery On-Site
Because we have our own on-site surgical facility, we can perform certain surgical procedures in our office. Having our own surgical facility allows us to conveniently provide the safest care possible. We use the latest technology for our surgical procedures and keep up with rigorous health and safety standards to ensure that your well-being always comes first. Our ophthalmologist can perform:
Cataract Surgery
If your vision is blurry or dull because of cataracts, our Denver, CO, team can perform cataract surgery. By removing cataracts and replacing your damaged lens with an intraocular lens (IOL), Dr. Coco can help you achieve clear vision once again. The surgery is virtually painless, and most candidates experience a fairly quick recovery.
LASIK Surgery
As one of the first ophthalmology practices in all of Colorado to offer LASIK eye surgery, we are a popular destination for men and women who want freedom from their contact lenses or eyeglasses. To help you achieve the very best treatment outcomes, our ophthalmologist also performs Custom Wavefront LASIK.
ICL
ICL is a removable lens implant that can correct nearsightedness. An alternative to LASIK and PRK, ICL is reversible, offers UV protection, and does not induce dry eye syndrome. Our ophthalmologist in Denver, CO, can review your candidacy for ICL during your next visit.
Diabetes and the Eye
Over time, having too much sugar in the blood can increase your risk of developing a variety of eye problems. If you have diabetes, you may be more likely to experience:
Diabetic Retinopathy
Diabetic retinopathy is a condition in which the blood vessels at the back of the eye become damaged, harming the retina. Symptoms can include floaters, blurriness, dark spots, difficulty perceiving colors, and even blindness. The condition may not present with symptoms at first, making a yearly dilated eye exam important as it can catch the condition in its earliest stages.
Diabetic Macular Edema
The macula is the part of the retina that you need to make out the details of what is in front of you, like when you're reading, driving, or seeing faces. Diabetic macular edema occurs when diabetes causes the macula to swell. Over time, this destroys the sharp vision, causes partial vision loss, or even results in blindness.
Glaucoma
Glaucoma is a group of eye diseases that can damage the optic nerve, leading to vision loss and blindness if not treated early.
Cataracts
The lenses in our eyes become cloudy as we age, leading to blurred vision. People with diabetes are more likely to experience cataracts and are more likely to develop them earlier.
The best way to manage your diabetes and keep your eyes healthy is to control your blood sugar, quit smoking, and receive a dilated eye exam at our Denver office once a year. This eye exam can help detect problems in their earliest stages when they can be treated with diabetes management. For more advanced cases, we offer a range of corrective treatments like injections, laser therapy, and surgery.

Helping Denver See With Clarity
What to Expect at Your First Visit
Contrary to common misconceptions, you don't need a referral to see an ophthalmologist. Anyone can request an appointment at our office. To expedite your first visit and help us get to know you better, we encourage you to fill out the necessary forms prior to your appointment. You should also bring your insurance information, current contact lenses or eyeglasses, and a list of current medications.
At the start of your appointment, you will undergo a comprehensive eye exam. This exam will last anywhere from one to two hours. After reviewing your medical history, one of our eye doctors will conduct a visual acuity test and refraction assessment. We will then screen for eye diseases such as glaucoma and corneal disease. We will also evaluate the back of each eye to rule out serious diseases like macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy.
